keep-calm-and-read-snopes-com(Warning: my ranty pants are on.)

Well, the nutjobs are at it again. There’s an article making the rounds on Facebook scaring people into thinking there’s a UN treaty that’s an end-run around the 2nd Amendment.

Click here to read the wrongage.

Had the “journalists” on said website done a quick check, they would have found out how WRONG their information is. (Oh, wait, maybe they didn’t WANT people to know the truth because their political agenda of keeping people ignorant and in fear is more important than, I don’t know, the TRUTH.)

Hence our good buddy, Snopes.

What’s REALLY going on.

So no, there is NOT a UN treaty that’s going to kick in and take our guns. (I am a gun owner. Believe me, I’d be pissed off as hell if that was the case.) In fact, President Obama SPECIFICALLY made sure our 2nd Amendment would be UPHELD.

Listen up, you right-wing fearmongers who hate Obama: you only make yourselves look like idiots when you pass on false information like this and try to gain support through FEAR. How about EDUCATION. The purpose of the treaty is to try to stop the flow of arms into terrorist group hands, to help prevent civil rights abuses by militant groups.

Grow. The fuck. Up.

And yes, the snowflake on the Keep Calm poster is a deliberate potshot at the special snowflakes who’d rather believe rhetoric instead of doing the research.

Fearmongers strike again: There IS NO UN Treaty end-running the Second Amendment.

I’m not an American, but we have the same type of people here who love to scaremonger that the Government want to sell off and privatise the NHS – free healthcare for all – and it just isn’t going to happen!!

@Anna – Every government has them, in every party. Unfortunately, there are idiots all over the place. Especially here in America, where good candidates usually don’t bother running because they can’t get the money to fund the campaign. There’s too much money in politics now. Our politicians have let so much special interest money into the arena that the only stuff that gets done is what’s paid for, basically.

One of the other things I hear/see that folk do is if it is on the internet or media somewhere they believe it to be true without critically assessing the facts through a more reliable source. I guess some people prefer to agitate and if that is through lies, half lies with a tiny amount of truth and it works – why change. I am not American either and the same thing happens here – someone gets on the TV or radio, makes some statements and when challenged uses the excuse “It is true, I saw it on the internet!” I continually shake my head at that!

@Vanessa – I know, right? Used to be if they saw it in a tabloid in the grocery store they’d believe it. “Well, it’s in print, so it must be true, right?”

Stupidity finds new ways to express itself, unfortunately.

It gets really old, doesn’t it? Yet some people believe anything the RWNJs tell them, and they watch Fox and listen to the Limbo as if they were getting real information. I don’t know about where you are, but nobody here is going up and down the streets collecting guns, or moving people into FEMA trailers, or blocking the door to the doctor’s office though they do try to block the access to the women’s clinic. But that’s not the government doing that.

People tell polls that they want jobs, infrastructure repairs, health care, education, Social Security and Medicare, and other things, then vote for the people who promise they’ll oppose all that with their last breath.

@Pogonip – I’m in Florida. πŸ™‚ And the FEMA camps thing has been going around since Clinton’s days. “Oh, they’re building FEMA camps and want to take our guns and herd us all into camps…”

Um, WHY? Then they usually cite Cuba as an example of guns being taken. I’ve got a hot news flash for them, an island nation with a fraction of the population and guns as we have here in the US, bucky, that horse left that barn YEARS ago. No idiot in office will be stupid enough to vote a total gun ban into law. As a gun owner, I support registration and background checks. I want teachers and police officers and doctors and nurses to have background checks and be registered, too. Does that make a bad person? No. Accountability.

And yet the rampant gun confiscations and FEMA camp interments the fear-mongerers were screaming about in the ’90’s STILL haven’t happened.

Let’s focus on REAL threats, like unemployment, decaying roads and bridges, things like that, and not the made up bullshit some news agencies like to spout just to keep ratings up.
