So…THIS happened. Blindsiding the mostly romance book world (because, let’s be honest, that was the bulk of their titles), All Romance Ebooks suddenly notified everyone that they were shutting doors as of 12/31/16 (literally days after having sent out an email for ad sales for 2017), buh-bye, fuck you.
Lori James has also now turned off the “delete” functions for authors and publishers to go in and delete the e-book files (instead of just deactivating the titles). For those of us who didn’t get our files pulled, we’ve started changing the covers and meta-data on those books to things like DO NOT BUY THIS BOOK BECAUSE I WON’T GET PAID. (Yeah, I might have been the one who suggested that. Never piss off an OCD Taurus sadist, because I will burn the mutherfucking house down from the inside for this level of fuckery.)
Now, this article has been written detailing a previous lawsuit against Lori James (who is also known as author Samantha Sommersby and part of the writing team that is SJ Harper).
It’s a disturbing look at what appears to be a systemic problem that started back in 2014.
There’s also a Facebook group for authors/publishers who have been impacted. Author Brenda Cothern is speaking with an attorney and gathering information from authors and publishers to possibly file a class-action suit. Make sure to contact her (you can find her on the admin list in the Facebook group).

Apparently, when we all said nothing could equal the Ellora’s Cave fiasco, the person responsible for this clusterfuck said CHALLENGE ACCEPTED and outdid the fuckery by a thousandfold.
If you are a self-pubbed author, one option is to put books up on your site via something like Payhip: http://www.payhip.com (NAYY) They handle the payments and file delivery. If you’re a little more skilled, there’s ZenCart, WooCommerce, and other things like that.
