Luna when we first got her.

Yeah, I bet that title grabbed your attention, didn’t it? I’m sneaky that way.

If you are a fan of The Big Bang Theory, you no doubt know from the episode “The Zazzy Substitution” that a grouping of cats is called a clowder. (It’s also called a pounce.) A group of kittens, however, besides being called a litter, is also called an intrigue or a kindle. (See?)

Momma cat-to-be Luna is highly pissed off at me today. I ran her over to the vet this morning to get bloodwork done. Fortunately, she was negative for a couple of nasties that I don’t even want to contemplate what our option would have been had she been positive.

(For those of you who don’t follow my Facebook feed, Luna was an outdoor cat, she showed up pregnant in February, and we finally caught her and brought her inside three weeks ago, where she’s now in residence in Grimmy’s old crate until after she pops.)

Luna’s “please kill me now” look.

The vet microchipped her for me, and we dewormed her, but her vaccinations will have to wait until after she delivers. Which is fine, because the other cats are up to date, and Grimmy will get another booster when he goes in on Friday to get neutered.

The poor thing is HUGE. I feel so sorry for her. She barely moves around now. She just lays there with this, “Please, get these things OUT of me NOW!” look on her face. She actually did great at the vet, considering it was her first time in a cat carrier, her first time in a car, and her first trip to the vet.

So now it’s just a matter of waiting until she finally has the little devils. I’m thinking about starting a kitten pool. LOL Why not? I don’t do March Madness brackets. Might as well. LOL

Actually, just for fun, if you want to participate, in the comments toss in your guess of date, number of kittens, and if you really want to get fancy, the gender ratios. If anyone gets really close, I’ll send you a little care package. And a kitten… (Just kidding! LOL)

The intriguing kindle (and I don’t mean the e-book reader)…

Via Facebook for Lise C. from the UK:

“ok, can’t seem to reply any other way 🙁 Here goes – 5 kittens, 3 little girls, 2 little boys. Date of Birth (hopefully) 25 March (why – my daughters first swimming trials). Let me know when I have a little kitten (Pic at least as I’m in the UK) :=) Hope she has a good birth and all goes well for the happy mamma!!”

March 22 with 4 kittens, 3 boys and 1 girl. While my dog might enjoy the entertainment a kitten would provide (a moving chew toy, what fun!!) I think life with my beast would be too tough for a little one to handle – lol.

    March 23rd – 6 kittens… 3 boys, 3 girls. Can I still have a kitten even if I don’t win? Nobody else wants one!

I’m going to go with March 29th.
    5 kittens. 3 boys, 2 girls.
And even though I’m going to be in Tampa the next day I do not want a kitten either.

I’m not a cat person I’m very allergic, (unless its pics of cute kittens). I don’t know how many they can give birth to. But for fun I say April 1st, 7 kitties, 4 girls and 3 boys.

    Ok, here’s my prediction…

    Date: March 26th
    Number – 6 kittens
    Ratio – 4 boys 2 girls

I wouldn’t mind a kitten, but I’m not sure the cat I rescued already would be too happy about that….

    BTW, LOVE LOVE your work!

Bayleigh – LOL You can have the whole kit and kaboodle when they’re born if you want them. LOL

Geez I hope y’all guessing more than four kittens are wrong. LOL I can only imagine what life will be like around here for eight weeks with that many kittens. LOL!

As long as you promise not to send any kittens my way I say 3/25. Six kittens 4 girls – 2 boys.

Also taking my own cat into consideration from years and years ago I think you’ll be surprised at the mix of colors in the litter. Our orange and white and 1 white male, 2 orange and white males, 1 orange and white female, and 1 grey striped female. Vet said that they can actually be more than one daddy if they our outdoors and one the loose.

We haz a kitteh! The first kitten was born today, 3/26, at approximately 1:30pm est.

It looks like Kim C is the only one who guessed March 26th. LOL

But because I like to see people win, whoever also guessed closest to the final count/ratio will get a little something, too. So Kim C, please contact me via email at tymberdalton AT gmail.com with your name and snail mail address so I can get your prize out to you. 🙂

Woo hoo, LOL…. Sending the email out now. Congrats on the kittens…. If you lived closer to Pearland, Tx, I would get one from you. I had a black cat for many years, that I miss terribly, as he passed away 4 years ago. I just now took in a stray that someone dumped (declawed and fixed, no less)… who looks to be about 6 or 7, and she could use a playmate.
