I mean, I know I shouldn’t tempt Fate by whining, but damn I’m tired of this year. Soooo tired.
FEMA came through for us with enough for me to replace the water softener. Of which half arrived today. Box 2 of 2.
Where is box 1 of 2? Apparently, no one knows. Box 2 is the salt holder. So it literally does me zero good without box 1, which should be the water softener and the whole-house filter I got for free with it. I mean, if they’d shorted me a salt holder, I could have at least made use of the one from the old one until the new one got here. Meaning I’m still in a holding pattern because I can’t do bupkis without the damned thing. But I can return the other filter and filter housing I’d already purchased from Amazon, because now I won’t need them. (I hadn’t installed it yet.)
I talked to our old well guy who said yes, I could relocate the water softener to our carport (yay!) without problem. Except that means some repiping, which actually isn’t that big of a deal other than I have to trench out the piping and it means I can finally redo the drain for the washing machine the right way (instead of it being a pipe out into my yard LOL). But it also means I don’t have to rebuild the well shed at this time (yay!). The pressure switch assembly already has a housing over it to keep the weather/rain off it, so it can sit there for now. I might or might not bite the bullet and remove/repipe the kitchen sink piping because it’s iron pipe (goes right up through the wooden floor from under the house into the cabinet. In theory, an easy replacement.)
Or…not. LOL Hell, it’s survived 70 years, I might just let it stay there for now.
Finished emptying the extra storage unit today so we don’t get charged for it. The house is still a disaster. But my kitchen and bathroom are clean and organized and staying that way, because I’m back on a schedule with them. The weekly and daily task/to-do list pads live on the kitchen counter so I don’t have to “remember” stuff–just look at it. That’s a huge help to my AuDHD self.
I’ve got to cut out two areas of carpet and replace (temporarily) with some discount roll linoleum I got on clearance at Lowe’s for $15. That will get the musty smell out of those areas until I can save up to replace the whole floor. (I haaaate carpeting.)
Everything hurts. Ugh. Not looking forward to the eventual crash when my body demands I take a break.
Trying to finish edits on an anthology story that they fortunately gave us a deadline extension for since several of us were hit by Helene and/or Milton. Writing on my couch is…challenging. LOL (My office is not yet put back together because I still have to replace the ceiling fan.)
Monday was 3 years to the day I found Russ passed away. Fortunately, also my regular therapy day. I did better than I thought it would, but honestly I think part of it was I’m just so overwhelmed by everything else going on right now that it sort of drowned it out.
OH. And Monday night our stove’s oven popped off and tripped the breaker. I think it’s the element. I told Spouse that will have to wait until this anthology story is in. If it is the element, that’s only $27 and looks to be something I can replace myself. If it’s not, then I’ll have to decide where to go from there.
I think Russ was thinking I got too deep into my head and decided to toss yet another distraction at me. LOL
I have started decluttering the house though. Packed up two very large garbage bags of clothes to donate. That’s…huge. For me, at least. I still have a ways to go but Mt. Washmore in the bedroom is the smallest it’s been in years (yay!) and every little bit that I do, it’s pushing me to keep doing it until it’s done. I keep repeating the mantra to myself “progress not perfection.” (If you’ve never heard of Flylady before, go check her out over at http://flylady.net )
We’re also using the storm debris pickup as a chance to finally chop down a bunch of overgrown bushes and stuff and put them out for pickup. (They haven’t made it to our area yet.) So my yard, while still a mess, at least feels like it’s also heading in the right direction.
I did vote early in person though! First day of early voting, I marched my happy little ass to the polling site and voted. Hardly anyone there, we got right in and out.
I’m trying to console myself with all this upheaval with the thought that a) we still HAVE a house that we can live in, b) I should be able to do all the necessary immediate repairs myself, and c) my house will finally be company-ready once again.
So that’s what’s going on here. And I’ve added a few items to my Etsy store, including chonky dragons and adorable “fidget-hogs” which are stuffed hedgehog amigurumis with beads on them that are perfect as fidget toys.
